Not authorized by a candidate or a committee controlled by a candidate.
It won’t solve a single problem in Richmond.
The blatant power grab is:
Divisive. Runoff elections will lead to more negative campaigns, could disenfranchise voters of color, reduce voter turnout and it will not address the problems faced by Richmond.
Expensive. Measure J could cost up to $300,000 every other year to implement and force taxpayers and candidates more of their hard earned money. And candidates will have to raise more money for multiple elections, giving an advantage to candidates backed by big corporations.
This is an attempt by the biggest polluters and their allies to have more power over local decision-making. By making campaigns more expensive and more divisive.
